German Cuisine: Sauerbraten

Sauerbraten was initially made with horse meat only but now it has been replaced with beef. The meat is kept in red wine, vinegar,herbs and spices. It is sour since it's literal meaning is "sour meat". It is then drowned in dark red wine gravy. Traditionally it is served with red cabbage, boiled potatoes or with potato dumplings.
