Rich brothers Phil and George meet a widow and her son. George falls for the widow named Rose. Phil always belittles both mother and son. He humiliates them always. Rose develops the habit of drinking which makes her alcoholic. When her son Peter comes back from school he notices the health of mother. One day he finds out that Phil is a gay. Phil see him eavesdropping and tries to catch him but fails. They both make a commitment then. They both go for rabbit catching in woods. Phil gashes his hand badly; Peter provides him cowhide to cover the wound to which Phil keeps staying away. On the other side, Rose gives the information of Phil and Peter cutting animal’s hide to Native America. To her way back, she gets unconscious. George tells Peter and Phil that she is extremely sick. Phil gets angry and curses her. Peter offers him help by lying with him all night and covering his wound by using cowhide. Next day George finds Phil extremely sick in his bed. He takes him to hospital but Phil couldn’t make it and dies. Doctor says that he died of anthrax. George gets confused since Phil never let any infectious or any animals hide touch him. Peter on his funeral reads the phrase “Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog." In the end they show that Peter is carefully putting a dog’s hide under his bed used gloves on his hands, which means that Peter used a diseased dog’s hide to cover the wound. He did this on purpose to make his mother’s and step father (George’s) life better.
